There is no shortage of great travel options this week.

I present to you the 10 best Sports Power Weekends of May 20-22. To purchase a Sports Power Weekend package, please contact us at info@SPWtravel.com.

Friday
  • Nationals at Orioles
Saturday
  • Preakness Stakes

The Preakness Stakes doesn’t bring in the same rowdy crowd that it used to, but the infield is still a fun place to be on a nice Saturday afternoon. Concerts and events will be held in the infield, as the second leg of the Triple Crown is run on the track. Nearby, the Beltway Series returns as the Nationals travel from D.C. to Baltimore to take on the O’s.

Saturday

Sunday

  • Rays at Marlins

Even though the Rays have rebounded from an early season stumble to take the lead in the AL East, and the Marlins have one of the best records in the NL, forgive the fans for focusing more on the Eastern Conference Finals matchup between the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat. Game 3 will be pivotal as the series moves from Chicago to South Beach, as the Heat try to defend their home court.

4. Boston

Friday
  • Cubs at Red Sox
Saturday
  • Cubs at Red Sox
Sunday
  • Cubs at Red Sox

With the Bruins on the road and the Celtics eliminated from the playoffs, the Red Sox have Boston all to themselves for the first time in a long time. It just so happens that they welcome the Chicago Cubs to Fenway Park for the first time since the 1918 World Series, in one of the most anticipated series in MLB this year. The Sox are fresh off a sweep of the Yankees, and hope to continue their great play following their lousy season start.

Sunday

The Thunder defended their home court in Game 7 against the Memphis Grizzlies, and will return home for their first-ever Western Conference Finals home game as they welcome the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 on Saturday. 6. Tampa Bay

    • Bruins at Lightning (Game 4)
    Sunday

The Lightning took Game 1 in Boston and hope to protect their home ice back in Tampa Bay. They host the Bruins on Saturday in Game 4, a pivotal showdown in each team’s quest for a Stanley Cup berth.

The Yankees are on the opposite trajectory after a hot start, but you can throw the records out the window as these teams meet in their annual Subway Series clash. The first installment of 2011 takes place in the Bronx, where Yankee Stadium is a short subway ride from Manhattan.

The Angels and Padres will both be in action, hosting the Braves and Mariners, respectively. The cross-town matchup taking place actually involves two MLS teams, as the Galaxy face their neighbors, Chivas USA.

Top Sports Power Weekends: January 28-30

      Monday, January 24th, 2011

In the off-week between the AFC & NFC Championship Games and the Super Bowl, other leagues get a chance to show off and claim some of the spotlight. The Pro Bowl will out-rate the NHL All-Star Game – and it won’t even be close – but Raleigh is where sports fans want to be on this weekend.

I present to you the 10 best Sports Power Weekends of January 28-30. To purchase a Sports Power Weekend package, please contact us at info@SPWtravel.com.

      Saturday
      • Pitt at Rutgers
      Sunday
      • Pistons at Knicks
      • Duke at St. John’s (MSG)
      • Providence at Seton Hall

If it seems like New York is always near the top of this list, it’s because it is. There are so many teams and games overlapping that New York City is a Sports Power Weekender’s dream. The Millrose Games don’t have the same cache that they did a few decades ago, but it is still worth checking out. Some Big East basketball at the RAC on Saturday will prepare you for a Madison Square Garden double-dose on Sunday.

      3. Los Angeles

      Friday
      • Kings at Lakers
      • Farmer’s Insurance Open
      Saturday
      • Bobcats at Clippers
      • Farmer’s Insurance Open
      Sunday
      • Celtics at Lakers
      • Farmer’s Insurance Open

The NBA Finals rematch (and maybe preview) on Sunday between the Celtics and Lakers headlines the weekend, but Blake Griffin is making the Clippers a must-see on Saturday. The Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines about two hours south of Los Angeles could make for a good day trip.

      4. Honolulu

      Friday
      Saturday
      Sunday
      • AFC-NFC Pro Bowl

If you are talking vacation spots, Honolulu would top this list at the end of January. In terms of Sports Power Weekends, this option drops a bit because it is a one-trick pony. That one-trick happens to be the second-to-last NFL game of the season, though. The Pro Bowl returns to its rightful place in Honolulu in 2011 and 2012. Enjoy the beach and an afternoon in Aloha Stadium on Sunday.

      5. Chicago

      Friday
      • Magic at Bulls
      Saturday
      • Pacers at Bulls
      • Ohio State at Northwestern
      Sunday

The rejuvenated Orlando Magic take on a somewhat overlooked Bulls team that is near the top of the East. On Saturday, top-ranked Ohio State and potential 2011 NBA Draft top pick Jared Sullinger travel to Evanston to take on the Northwestern Wildcats.

      6. Phoenix

      Friday
      • Celtics at Suns
      Saturday
      • USC at Arizona
      • UCLA at Arizona State
      Sunday
      • Hornets at Suns

The Pac-10 may be down this year, but Arizona and UCLA still have NBA-level talent. You can see either on Saturday, after checking out the Boston Celtics and their Big Four face Steve Nash and the Suns on Friday. On Sunday, Chris Paul and Nash clash. That should be fun.

      7. San Francisco

      Friday
      • Bobcats at Warriors
      Saturday
      • Hornets at Kings
      • Oregon State at Stanford
      • Oregon at Cal
      Sunday
      • Jazz at Warriors

The Bay Area is on display as the Warriors take on the Charlotte Bobcats in Oakland, the Kings host Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets in Sacramento, and Stanford and Cal host Pac-10 games in Palo Alto and Berkeley, respectively. Get familiar with CalTrain!

      8. Atlanta

      Friday
      • Knicks at Hawks
      Saturday
      Sunday
      • Maryland at Georgia Tech

The Knicks visit the Hawks on Friday, and Maryland travels to Georgia Tech on Sunday for an ACC battle. Exciting basketball games make Atlanta a good visit on this weekend.

      9. Salt Lake City

      Friday
      • Timberwolves at Jazz
      Saturday
      • Colorado State at Utah
      Sunday

Two of the best young players in the NBA, Kevin Love and Deron Williams will take the court as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz face off on Friday. Saturday sees a college basketball clash between Colorado State and the Utes. Mix in some skiing, and you have yourself a Sports Power Weekend.

      10. Oklahoma City

      Friday
      • Wizards at Thunder
      Saturday
      Sunday
      • Heat at Thunder

Oklahoma City cracks the list because of the talent on the court on Friday and Sunday as Kevin Durant and the Thunder take on John Wall and the Wizards, and LeBron, Wade, Bosh and the Miami Heat.
